An Important Reminder to Refugee Communities in Malaysia

Thursday / 02 April 2026

UNHCR would like to remind all community members of the following important points:
  • UNHCR does not appoint, endorse, or authorize any individual or group as the sole channel to reach us.

No community member, leader, or organization represents UNHCR or has special influence over your case.

  • All UNHCR services are free of charge.

This includes registration, documentation, case processing, counselling, and all other services.

  • Anyone asking for money to “assist”, “refer”, or “speed up” your case is acting fraudulently.

Paying money will not help your case, and refusing to pay will not harm it.

  • No individual can influence, threaten, or negatively affect your UNHCR case.

All case decisions are made only by UNHCR staff and based solely on protection needs.

  • UNHCR does not endorse any newly formed committees claiming exclusive authority.
Community groups may support their members, but they are not official representatives of UNHCR.
If you encounter anyone requesting money or making false claims of influence, please report it to UNHCR.
