Beware of Fake Facebook Accounts Impersonating UNHCR Malaysia

Tuesday / 23 December 2025

UNHCR Malaysia has only one official Facebook account  (www.facebook.com/UNHCRMalaysia). We do not use Facebook to discuss individual refugee cases.

We have been made aware of Facebook accounts and posts falsely claiming to represent UNHCR Malaysia.  Any other account is not affiliated with UNHCR in any way and is falsely impersonating UNHCR and/or community leaders. They have been misleading the public by sharing photos from refugee communities, UNHCR staff, and NGO partners to create a false representation of UNHCR.

The individual(s) behind these accounts are using someone else’s identity, have no connection to UNHCR and are not authorized to assist with registration, documentation, Refugee Status Determination (RSD), or resettlement processes. Please do not share your personal information or make any payments to them.

How to Report the Fake Account

We urge you to report this account directly to Facebook using the following resources:

 Important Reminders

  • All UNHCR services are FREE, including UNHCR documents, registration, refugee status determination (RSD) and resettlement.
  • Be cautious of anyone claiming they can help you with resettlement or other UNHCR processes in exchange for money or services.
  • If you encounter individuals making such claims, please report them to:
    • Police CCID Scam Response Centre: 03-26101559 / 03-26101599
    • UNHCR: Submit a report using this form

Reporting suspicious activity will not affect your case. Your UNHCR document will not be cancelled, and your case will not be delayed or closed for reporting fraud.
