Refugee Advisory Board Application

Application as member of Refugee Advisory Board Cohort 2025/2026

Application period: 13th December 2024 to 23rd December 2024

  • The refugee leaders or focals serve as members of RAB on a voluntary basis and do not receive any monetary benefits to perform their duties.
  • Members of RAB will not be prioritized for any services offered by UNHCR as a result of their involvement with the Board.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Is a refugee / asylum seeker holding a valid UNHCR Malaysia document.
  • Lives in Klang Valley.
  • Possessing strong understanding of refugee situation in Malaysia, including challenges and issues faced by refugees and asylum-seekers in Malaysia.
  • Possessing strong desire to work in support of the overall refugee community and its empowerment, irrespective of ethnicity, nationality, race or religion or gender.
  • Possessing strong previous experience in supporting refugees in the humanitarian sector, volunteering, or personal initiatives to serve or advocate for refugees.
  • Possessing the ability to think critically, diplomatically, and pragmatically.

Responsibility

  • Assist the UNHCR in understanding the needs and challenges of the refugee communities to improve programming and assistance for all refugees in Malaysia.
  • Coordinate with the UNHCR and other stakeholders in projects and programs that benefit and build the capacity of the refugee communities.
  • Advocate for the interests of all refugees in Malaysia.
  • Attend meetings, activities contributing to deliverables, following up on action points, providing inputs, and aligning their activities with the Board’s plans and strategies.

Membership

  • The RAB Cohort of 2025/2026 will last for 2 years, starting on January 2025 and ending on December 2026.
  • Member may withdraw from the RAB any time by informing UNHCR and it shall take effect immediately.
  • UNHCR reserves the right to terminate the membership of any member based on the following reasons:
    a. breach of code of conduct; or
    b. failure to achieve the minimum number of attendances required for activities and meetings.
  • Members are appointed in their personal capacities and not their capacities as focal/leader/representative for a particular refugee community or a particular organization.
  • Membership is not hereditary and hence it cannot be passed down to anyone including the member’s successor for any of his other positions.

How to Apply?

Step 1

The application form will be available starting from 13th December 2024. Fill in and submit the application by 23rd December 2024, 10am. The application form is here.

Step 2

UNHCR will review all applications. UNHCR will contact only the shortlisted candidates for interview. If you do not get any reply from us, it means you are not selected. There is no need to follow up with UNHCR on your application.

New RAB members selected by January 2025.
