UNHCR Malaysia’s Post

Saturday / 28 February 2026

The UNHCR team in Malaysia is shocked and deeply saddened upon learning of the tragic death of Mr Nurul Amin Shah Alam. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and community during this profoundly difficult time.

Mr Nurul was one of thousands of Rohingya compelled to flee Myanmar and had found safety in Malaysia before being resettled. A husband and father, Mr Nurul’s death has shaken the community. In this moment of grief, we honour the dignity and courage of refugees and are reminded of the importance of providing protection for those forced to flee. We also express our gratitude to Malaysia for its longstanding humanitarian commitment to people fleeing persecution and conflict.

In shared humanity, let’s continue to show solidarity with refugees, including the Rohingya community.
