Tracking Refugee Information System (TRIS) is a programme by the Government of Malaysia to enable tracking of refugees in Malaysia.
In recent years, through the Government-initiated Joint Task Force, UNHCR has been in discussions with the Government on a variety of issues related to refugee protection to explore areas of closer cooperation. These discussions have included data sharing, joint registration and access to legal work. Recent conversations have not included any information on TRIS and thus UNHCR is unable to advise further and is seeking clarification.
UNHCR is mandated to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees and asylum-seekers worldwide. All UNHCR services are free of charge, including issuance of UNHCR documentation. UNHCR abides by its data protection policy when dealing with the data of persons of concern.
UNHCR continues to welcome the constructive engagement and support to the Government of Malaysia on these and other areas of concern to Malaysia related to refugee protection.
